Supporting Actor(s) of the Week

Warwick Davis, Verne Troyer, Tony Cox, and Debbie Lee Carrington

I didn’t choose to split the supporting actor of the week section because the four of them together equaled a normal actor, but because these vertically challenged actors together are the heads of a beautiful world of actors known as “the Midgets”. Warwick Davis made them great and was the first midget to hold a starring role as the lovable Ewok in Return of the Jedi (actually all of them were in Return of the Jedi except Verne). He then went on to starring roles in Willow and the Leprechaun series. As Warwick grows older a younger actor steps up to the plate, the even smaller Verne Troyer has been featured in many movies most notably the role of Mini-Me in the Austin Powers series, make sure to catch him as the portable assassin in Hard Cash. And who can forget the foul-mouthed midget from Friday and Me, Myself, and Irene. Tony Cox is the most recognized black midget and his size doesn’t keep him from being intimidating although the bricks and nun-chucks help. I tried to think of a notable female midget, and without referencing Willow I struggled. However, if you remember Total Recall there was a wonderful young prostitute midget Debbie Lee Carrington who has been in several movies (guess who played the penguin in Batman Returns?) and was in the “Stand In” episode of Seinfeld. This rounds out our cast of brilliant tiny people, don’t neglect to praise them, and hopefully the enhanced world of digital creation won’t ruin their job opportunities. Stupid Hobbitses, Yoda, Dobby, and Gollum (All Played by non-midgets).
